THE STORY BEHIND AUTO GENIUS

        The founder of Personal Computers of America, Robert Ginsberg, grew up working in an automotive repair facility at the age of eight. With each advancing year, he had earned more responsibility in the operations. Riding his bike to work each day, Rob had become the weekend manager, in which he had the keys and was in charge of opening and closing the shop for the the day. At age eleven, Rob began doing the daily accounting and payroll for this busy and profitable business. The owner of the Auto Shop trusted Rob enough to leave the shop for time off. By the age of 18, Rob was leaving to attend college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The departure was very difficult for the owner who had become accustomed to Rob managing his business. During the first school break, Rob visited the shop and discovered that the paper work was drastically behind and all organization had been lost. Unpaid repair invoices were not billed, invoices were not filed, and the owner had fallen very behind in the accounting.

        Rob then took it upon himself to come up with an easy solution. He decided to automate the shop with a computer. To do this he needed to write a software program that would work for an automotive shop. At eighteen, still while attending college as an engineer major, he started writing the program. With the program done and the shop automated, the owner gained control and was still able to take vacations. His Auto Repair Facility began winning awards and business improved greatly. Other Auto shops in the area quickly took notice of the computer system. They too wanted their business to run as smoothly. Rob started getting many calls while at school for his software. He then started the company Personal Computers of America. The company officially began on August 1, 1986. The software from that point on became known as, Auto Genius.
